Meet Mrs. Byer

This is Mr. and Mrs. Byer before they were married. They are going to the high school prom.

Mrs. Byer was born in Braddock, PA and grew up in North Versailles, PA.  She attended Slippery Rock University and after graduation she married her childhood sweetheart, Bob, and they moved to the Harrisburg area.  She was hired by the Susquehanna Township School District and she has been teaching there for over 35 years.  She lives in York County with her husband, Bob. She has two daughters, Emily and Sara. Emily is a nurse who is married and has three children, Gabe, Isabelle and Ben. Sara is an accountant and lives in Philadelphia.  She has a horse, Sheik, and loves to compete in triathlons.

Mrs. Byer has a cat named Sly.  Sly is very "sly" and likes to get out of the house.  He likes to drink water from the faucet!

Mrs. Byer's loves to teach poetry and writing.  She collects children's books for her classroom library, such as the Dear America series, books with a quilting theme, and poetry books.  She also really enjoys history and is working on her family tree. She has traced some of her family back to 1580!  Several of her ancestors fought in the Revolution.  One of them may have been a Hessian soldier!  Her husband's family includes some kings and queens, and even some people who have been beheaded!!

This is a quilt Mrs. Byer made showing her family tree.

When Mrs. Byer is not teaching, she enjoys making quilts and is a member of the Lemoyne Star Quilt Guild.  In the summer you can probably find her working in her garden or just sitting and watching the birds and butterflies. Often she will have a quilting project in her hands or be reading a book about teaching. She loves to spend time with her grandchildren.
