About Book Reports
By Lyle
| Students will be required to give several book reports in 4th grade. Here is some information that you might find helpful in preparing your book reports. |
1. There will be about 1 book report per theme.
2. There will be about 4-6 weeks between book reports.
3. The book chosen should be one that either fits the current theme or has been pre-approved by the teacher. Books that relate to the current social studies unit are also good picks for book reports. Appropriate books will be available in the classroom or can be selected from the library or home book collections.
4. Students should prepare one of the types of reports assigned in the current theme. All students are given a handbook at the beginning of each theme describing the reports for that theme. Examples of all reports are shown on-line on the theme page. Printouts of book report forms can be gotten from Mrs. Byer's EdLine page under the reading theme.
5. Most materials for the reports will be available in the classroom or are easy things to acquire at home.
6. All book reports, no matter what type, should contain information about the characters, the setting, and plot of the book.
7. Reports should be made by the student and not the parent. Parents may assist and instruct, but the student should make the project and write or type the report by him/herself. The teacher can tell the difference.
8. Students choosing lengthy books can pre-arrange to report on a portion of the book. The student should then finish the book and may report on the second half for the next report.
9. All reports are presented to either the entire class, or a small group of students. Students should prepare well in order to make a good impression.
10. A scoring rubric will be used to grade the book reports. You can view it by clicking here: Scoring Rubric
